The Greatest Con Man Who Ever Lived

To many people who consider themselves Christians, I speak of those who are either are carnal or deceived, Benny Hinn is one of the greatest men of God to have ever lived. As for me, Benny Hinn is the man that makes me want to vomit. In my mind, Benny Hinn is not even worthy enough to be called a man, and this is coming from a Calvinist who believes in total depravity. He has lied, deceived, and robbed countless people. The truth of the matter is that Benny Hinn should be considered the greatest con man who ever lived. To call him godly is not only an insult to godly men, but to God Himself.

Why am I so angry when it comes to Benny Hinn? Because of the fraud that he is. One of my biggest pet peeves, and the thing that gets me so angry, is a fake; there has been no one in Christianity that is more fake than Benny Hinn. To the followers of The Reformed Alliance, this introduction might sound very off. I don’t usually pull a Quentin Tarantino and start a post so abruptly, but I have a reason for my anger, accusations, and attacks towards Benny Hinn and his ministry. Not only have I personally heard the testimonies of people who knew him, and not only have I heard an interview with Justin Peters and Costi Hinn (Benny Hinn’s nephew) in which Costi Hinn reveals that his uncle was a heretic and con man, but I have also read the Scriptures enough to spot a wolf when I see one.

All this being said, let’s dig into the reason why I believe Benny Hinn is as bad as I describe him to be.

A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing

Of all the pictures and videos I’ve seen of Benny Hinn, I have never seen him being poorly dressed. I must admit that he is always dressed in gay clothing (both in the KJV James 2 sense, and the “you-know-what-I-mean” sense). However, not many people know why. It is because Benny Hinn, along with several of the TBN heretics, has his own London tailor. Benny Hinn’s suits are estimated to cost around $10,000 each. What a humble man (don’t worry I’m sarcastic). However, is this the reason why I think he’s a bad person? No. If I did, I wouldn’t be discerning, but rather jealous. So, what is wrong with his lavish lifestyle? I want to bring your attention to the household of the Patels, a family that came to America to escape persecution in India…

They were Christians for not too long when they discovered Benny Hinn. They heard the faith healer claim that he had powers to heal, as long as the desperate people sent him money. The Patels had a son who had extreme brain damage. He couldn’t walk, talk, and doctors said he would not live past 20. They were desperate to see him healed.

When they heard a man on the television, claiming to be Christian, say that healing would come to their family if they would sow a seed of $2,000 or more, they gave. They thought this was a man of God. A year went by, and nothing happened. However, the story doesn’t end.

The Patels then go to one of Benny Hinn’s “healing crusades” (makes you want to vomit), in hopes that their only son would be healed. Sure enough, they were brought up on the stage, and Benny Hinn prayed for him. Sadly, only a few months after that, the son passed away. The Father wrote to Benny Hinn’s ministry to thank Hinn for doing all he could and pledged to continue to give to the ministry, but he did not receive any feedback.

The Father tried numerous times to contact Hinn’s ministry, until finally the ministry contacted the Patel family and told them to stop “bothering” Benny Hinn. The Patels, though they had gone through much hardship and gave thousands of dollars to Hinn’s ministry, were shunned.

That is the kind of behavior that angers me. While Benny Hinn lives in a multi-million dollar mansion, eats dinners that cost more than how much an average family makes in a week, and wears a $10K suit with a Rolex and Gucci loafers (or maybe Gucci isn’t good enough for him, I don’t know)… he has the audacity to not only shun the people that are hurting, but also insult them. He is a man who is only after money. He may seem like a nice guy in his expensive suit and Rolls Royce, but he is made less than dirt in God’s eyes because of the way he treats God’s people. He is after money, not God’s glory. Jesus once said this concerning His ministry in Matthew 8:20 (ESV), “‘Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.'”

Benny Hinn uses Jesus’ name to live a lavish lifestyle, not realizing that Jesus not only condemned lavish lifestyles for ministers, but also stated that ministry is about sacrifice. Avoid every minister, and I mean every minister, who cares more about living a lavish style and his own fame than God’s people and God’s glory.

False Prophet and Fake Miracles

“The Lord is telling me something,” a young Benny Hinn once said in a 1995 ‘sermon’ (if you can even call it that), “In a few years, Fidel Castro will die.” Benny Hinn was right that Castro would die, only that he would die 21 years later. But after all, it’s not possible that Benny Hinn could be faking it right? I mean…maybe God messed up, right? God has never messed up before, but surely Benny Hinn wouldn’t lie to us.

Another prophecy that Benny Hinn made was that during the 1990s, the homosexual community would be consumed by fire. I wonder if Benny Hinn would make the same prophecy today, and I would bet he wouldn’t want to do that. Benny Hinn should be grateful that we don’t enforce the Law of Moses. In Deuteronomy 18:20 (ESV), “But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name that I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.” This text is pretty straight forward.

Other texts of Scripture indicate that prophecy was to be met with complete accuracy. If a person fails to prophesy accurately, that prophet becomes a false prophet. Thus, how can Benny Hinn be any less a false prophet, much less a prophet that is most definitely condemned by God.

When it comes to Benny Hinn’s “miracles”, they only solidify the fact that he is a fraud. Not one of Hinn’s “healed subjects” have been proven to be medically healed. In fact, most people who return to the doctor after Benny Hinn tells them they are healed find out they are still very much sick. Whenever Jesus healed someone of diseases that were not visible, He would send the person who was healed to a doctor or Pharisee to verify the healing. While Benny Hinn has helped people with joint pain and breathing problems (even that I doubt sometimes), Jesus healed people from blindness and leprosy. I simply ask people to research the verity of Hinn’s miracles and to tell me after all the research that there were real miracles taking place in His ministry. He is not only a charlatan and a thief, but also a liar and a blasphemer.

What an Awful Guy

I am not stretching the truth when I say that Benny Hinn is an awful guy. Maybe Benny Hinn has connived countless people that he is a miracle man, a man of God, and that he is humble, but his family has a different testimony. Hinn’s children despise him and only love him for the money, his wife filed for divorce against him after he was constantly neglecting her, and his nephew, Costi Hinn, has testified to his uncle’s true behaviors: maniacal, power-hungry, vicious, greedy, and deviously cunning. Suzanne, his wife, repeatedly told several people that Benny Hinn ignored her and that Hinn would remind her of how insignificant she was.

Some might say it’s over the top, but Benny Hinn is famous for his off-camera and off-stage persona. My father once told me about a few guys he knew in Ukraine who would host conferences, and one year they invited Benny Hinn because they thought the world of him. They quickly found him to be a brat who demanded that his airline tickets be first class, that he should have an entire floor of a hotel to himself, and that he would be given the most well-prepared foods. He demanded to have a specific kind bananas, at one point throwing the regular kind of banana at one of the room service operators. The people who at one time admired Benny Hinn said that he had poor character.

What is interesting to me is that the Scriptures clearly say that a man who can’t take of his own home should not be in ministry. The Bible also says that a minister of God should strive for self-control and grow in the fruits of the Spirit. For a man who claims to have the Holy Spirit’s special anointing for healing, he sure is unskilled at obeying the basics of the Christian faith. Maybe some don’t think that personality matters, but I believe it does, especially if it involves poor character. We are supposed to walk according to the statutes and methods of Jesus Christ as part of our sanctification process. Benny Hinn is either completely ignorant, deceived, or deceitful. In other words, either Hinn doesn’t know anything in the Bible, doesn’t even understand what he’s doing wrong, or doing wrong on purpose. I am convinced it’s the latter.

For some, this post was too long. For others, like myself, this post was too short. For me to discuss Benny Hinn is anger inducing and simply horrifying to my soul. Men like Hinn deserve to be in jails. They are not murderers or dictators, but people like Hinn lead others to a demonic deceit. Some people ask me if I believe Benny Hinn will be in hell. My response is that I don’t truly know. Perhaps Benny Hinn will eventually repent by the grace of God, but I will say that as of this moment… if he were to die right now, he would have no quarter with God.

He is a danger to Christian evangelicalism, and even the world for his public views of the Bible. He is not a Christian, but a con man who poses as one. I hope we will be more discerning of other people. May God give us the strength to chase after Christ, and not the people of this earth who pretend to be like Him. There is no greater miracle worker, provider, and Savior than Jesus Christ, and not even Benny Hinn could take that away from me, no matter how much that evil con-man says so. Benny Hinn is an insignificant clutter of dust that will soon return to the earth it came from, but all of us in Christ need to oppose him and help anyone caught in his false teachings.

Soli Deo Gloria.

    1. The word was intended to be “to” since the sentence would read like this: “To many people who consider themselves Christians… Benny Hinn is one of the greatest men of God to have ever lived.” Kind of like “In the eyes of many…” Sorry if the sentence caused confusion.
